Seafarers
For a number of years now there have been members of our congregation working together to support Centres for Seafarers.
Centres for Seafarers was formed as a ‘not for profit’ charity company in 2004 and is an ecumenical partnership of the three international Christian Mission Societies - The Apostleship of the Sea, The Sailors Society and The Mission to Seafarers. These societies work together to provide welfare, comfort and shelter for seafarers visiting UK ports. There are currently three Centres established in the UK – Southampton, Tilbury and Fawley.
The Tilbury Seafarers Centre are happy to accept gifts for seafarers throughout the year – they suggest writing pads, pens, pencils, toiletries, dictionaries, books (in good condition), Bibles and, of course, knitted gloves, hats, scarves, balaclavas etc.
